History

USTA/Virginia Tennis (USTA/VA) was established in 1968 as a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote and develop the growth of tennis. It is a District representative of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The Virginia District encompasses the entire state and is the largest of the four Districts that make up the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section (USTA/MAS). The USTA has established 17 Sections nationwide which includes the fifty states and Caribbean.
The Virginia Tennis office offers a professional, enthusiastic staff and dedicated Board & Committee members to promote and develop the game in your community. The USTA offers a wide variety of programs for recreational and competitive players of all ages. Currently, Virginia Tennis alone supports over 20,000 individual members and over 250 organizational members, including more than 30 Community Tennis Associations. The USTA pathway of programs held throughout the state of Virginia involves over 13,000 recreational and competitive participants, from novice to the experienced, and USTA/VA League Tennis has over 25,000 registrants per league year. Virginia Tennis sanctions over 300 tournaments per year and determines state rankings for both junior and adult participants. In addition to these activities, USTA/VA promotes and supports numerous community events in conjunction with USTA Challenger Tournaments, ATP Tour Tournaments, USTA Pro Circuit Tournaments, Wheelchair Tennis, USTA Organizational members, Adaptive and Diversity programs, and sponsors.
With all of the activities that Virginia Tennis is involved with, one might ask; how do we do it?
The answer is our most valuable resource of dedicated volunteers, who serve on our Board of Directors, Committees & local Community Tennis Associations and assist with special events. We are always looking for those that love the game of tennis and can volunteer their time to help us with events, promotions, office administration, or to serve on our Committees and Board.
We have a knowledgeable and reliable staff that can assist in answering any questions you may have. Visit our USTA/Virginia Tennis Staff page so that you may direct your question to the person who can give the best response possible.
We are doing exciting things for the game of tennis in Virginia!
Many thanks to all those who continue to support the game.
Sincerely yours,

Janine Underwood
Executive Director, USTA/Virginia Tennis
