USTA/VA releases the tournament schedule for the 2011 Truong Wheelchair Tennis Grand Prix

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA; MARCH 3, 2011 - Coming off of a great inaugural 2010 season, the Truong Wheelchair Tennis Grand Prix has released its upcoming tournament schedule. The 2011 Grand Prix will feature one new event as well as an award winning tournament at both the District and Sectional levels.

 The season starts in mid-May with the Midlothian Athletic Club Wheelchair Open, an event that was awarded Tournament of the Year for both the Virginia District and the Mid-Atlantic Section. The newest addition to the circuit, The Baltimore Wheelchair Tennis Classic will follow in June. The complete circuit schedule, including the season-ending finale in Williamsburg, is as follows:

Started by USTA/VA and with the Truong Rehabilitation Center as the title sponsor, the Wheelchair Tennis Grand Prix hopes to build on last year’s success with greater participation and even better events. These events allow players in the ever-growing wheelchair division to have more opportunities to play in USTA sanctioned events. Our hope is to continue building the circuit, both in participation numbers and events.

The Truong Rehabilitation Center provides state of the art treatment to patients suffering from a painful condition, or recovering from a physical disability. The Center is designed to offer advanced medical treatment and rehabilitation all in one location. Truong Rehabilitation Center is committed to serving patients in pain management, promoting strength and movement, as well as improving quality of life for patients with acute or chronic conditions.

 

The 2011 Grand Prix Standings will be determined by a player’s best 4 tournament results, and as a participation bonus, those who play in all 5 tournaments will receive ½ of the points earned in that 5th tournament (ex. players would receive the full point value for their best 4 results and ½ of the point value for the 5th best result).

Tournaments in the Truong Grand Prix offer the following men’s and women’s divisions:

A singles/doubles

B singles/doubles

C singles/doubles

Quad A singles/doubles

 

Truong Cups are awarded to the Grand Prix Circuit winners in each division, and these players are additionally honored by having their names engraved on the beautiful Truong Perpetual Cup trophy which is on permanent display at the Truong Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg, VA.

Jillana (Mel) Curry – B Division

Valeria Reyes-Chian – C Division

In 2011 the Truong Circuit will also crown doubles Grand Prix winners in each division. The intent of this exciting addition is to celebrate and promote wheelchair doubles play and competition.
